Rules

This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older.

All mailed entries must received at the mailing location by the entry deadline - please allow for shipping time. Late entries will not be accepted.

All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).

The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.

The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.

Entries will be accepted from October 9th - October 29th, 2023. Home-brew entry form, fee & beer deadline is Sunday, October 29th, 2023. Late entries will not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS. Judging will take place Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, November 5th, with awards given out Sunday evening.

Entry fees are $9.00 .  You can pay via our website by adding a competition entry to your cart and checking out like normal.  You can also pay in store at drop off time. (Checks should be made payable to The Beer Nut)

All entries must include the entry form and payment, and all entries must have labels attached with rubber bands only. Improperly submitted entries, or entries received after the drop off deadline, may be disqualified.

Be sure that you enter your beer into the proper style category. Styles accepted include all styles listed in 2021 BJCP Style Descriptions. Entries become property of The Beer Nut and will not be returned.

Judging:The Beehive Brew-Off is open to all recognized beer categories. The 2021 edition of the BJCP Style Guidelines will be used to judge entries.It is the brewer’s responsibility to determine the correct category/subcategory to enter their beers, and to provide additional information where required.Depending on the number of entries and category distribution, categories and subcategories may be combined or separated for judging and awards purposes. These judging table breakdowns will not be available prior to the competition and will be determined by the competition committee once all the entries have been processed.

Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge/Brewery Professional.

Categories with a small number of entries may be combined at the discretion of the competition organizers. The Competition Coordinator or other qualified person will review elements of beer categories and styles with each panel prior to judging.

The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Blue Ribbon Panel based on a second judging of the top winners.

Entries will not be returned to entrants.

Best of Show

The winner of Best of Show will receive one free entry to any AHA  sanctioned competition and may also be chosen by a Brewery to participate in 2024 Pro-Am Competition at Great American Beer Festival.

Awards

The awards ceremony will take place Sunday Evening after all judging is completed.

Places will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category/table.

The 1st place entry in each category will advance to the Best of Show (BOS) round with a single, overall Best of Show beer selected.

Additional prizes may be awarded to those winners present at the awards ceremony at the discretion of the competition organizers.
